SEO For Beginners 5 – More Link Building

In the last part of this series, we shed light on link building including internal and external link building. However, external link building is such a big part of SEO that it deserves another article in the series. Today, we’ll speak in detail about external link building.

Since you already know the definition (if you do not, please check Part IV of this series) we will instantly move on to the other important points and how to achieve this.

External link building can be achieved in many ways. It can be divided in several types that are explained below with tips on how to get the best results.

Reciprocal Link

This type of link building works on the give and take formula as two websites share or exchange links with each other. Merely exchanging links is not enough as webmasters are required to submit their websites to reciprocal link exchange directories to be able to achieve good rankings in search engines. The effectiveness of reciprocal building has greatly demised in the last few years with some major websites like Google not giving attention to such links. However, the advantages of reciprocal sharing in overall traffic cannot be denied.

Resource Link

Resource links are simple hyperlinks that contain link to a website that contains information on what is being discussed. These types of links are extremely useful for several purposes and not just for SEO. With Google’s updated policy, the importance of resource links has only increased, as these are considered relevant and informative.

An easy way of improving your website’s ranking is by having content that is unique and informative so that other websites use it as a resource and link back to your website. Since almost all major search engines use links to analyze a website’s relevance and value, one cannot overemphasize about this point.

It should be mentioned that links that come from related and high PR websites are more valued than links that come from irrelevant and low traffic websites. Some specific extensions such as .gov and .org get more importance as these are usually looked at as high PR websites.

These links also help search engines categorize your website. For example, if your website is about pets then links coming from pets’ health related sites will be useful, as they will help search engines determine the nature of your website. Links coming from websites related to movies etc. will understandably not be very helpful. This also indicates artificial link building and may result in your website getting blacklisted as this is looked at as an attempt to fool search engines.

Forum Signature Linking

This is a way to increase inbound links and is very easy. Many forums on the internet allow users to have hyperlinks in their signatures. All you have to do is get an account on the forum and set your website link in the signature to make the link counted. However, not all forums allow this so one has to be a little careful. Once again, relevancy is a very important thing here.

Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is an SEO technique that has quickly gained fame mostly due to the popularity of blog websites like WordPress and Blogger. With a number of blogs on a continuous increase, there is a lot of scope for people to indulge in blog commenting and leave comments on as many blogs as possible.

This is a type of do-follow link that can be achieved in two ways. When making a comment, many a times you have the option to leave your link in your details that connects with your comment. Additionally, you may also leave a link in your message. Both these tricks are very common in SEO, but the effectiveness differs.

At times, these links do not prove to be beneficial since quite often comments have to be passed by moderators before they appear and a comment is not counted until it appears with the link. If your comment looks like a spam or just an attempt to get a link then the moderator may send it to spam.

These days, many auto checkers send comments with links to spam automatically. This is why it is recommended that you be careful when leaving such comments and make sure that the comment is relevant to what is being discussed in the blog. If you leave the URL in the information box then it does not necessarily has to be linked to the topic. However, if you leave it in the message then it should be related to the topic so that it doesn’t look like spam.

Directory Link Building

Many paid and free web directories add links and categorize them accordingly. You should try to get your website added in as many directories as possible. If you do not want to pay then you may only concentrate on free web directories.

These greatly help improve search engine optimization as these web directories hold a lot of importance. Additionally, many people also use these to search for specific sites.

Some directories include, JoeAnt, Starting Point Directory, and Best of the Web Directory.

Social Bookmarks

This is a way of categorizing and saving web pages in a public location. Bookmarks are basically links with proper anchor texts, they have SEO value. Crawlers pay attention to these bookmarks links and they may be helpful in giving your web traffic a boost.

These are all the important points of link building. You should use a mixture of all these tricks to improve your search engine. Many SEO websites provide these services; however, you need to make sure that you pick the right company that selects the appropriate website for link building.
